A raised toilet seat, also known as a toilet riser or elevated toilet seat, is a device that adds height to a standard toilet, making it easier to sit down on and stand up from. These aids are particularly beneficial for individuals with reduced mobility, injuries, or conditions like arthritis that make bending and sitting difficult. They are designed to increase safety and comfort, reduce strain on joints, and can range in height and features, sometimes including integrated handles for added support.

Key Features and Benefits:

Increased Height:

The primary function is to raise the toilet bowl by several inches, typically between 2 to 6 inches.

Easier Sitting and Standing:

The added height reduces the distance to sit and stand, lessening the effort required from the user's knees, hips, and back.

Improved Safety:

Raised seats can help prevent falls and provide stability, especially when combined with handrails or grab bars.

Versatility:

They are available in various designs to fit different toilet bowl shapes (round or elongated) and can be portable or permanently installed.

Specific Use Cases:

They are recommended for older adults, people recovering from surgery or injury, pregnant individuals, and anyone experiencing pain or limitations when using the toilet.

Types of Raised Toilet Seats:

Seat Risers:

These units fit over or replace the existing toilet seat and are secured to the toilet base.

Free-Standing Units:

These are self-contained chairs with an elevated seat and support arms that sit around the toilet.

Toilevators:

These are devices installed underneath the entire toilet to lift the entire fixture, offering a more discreet solution.

How to use the raised toilet seat?

Loosen the fixing brackets on the raised toilet seat. Place the raised toilet seat onto the centre of the toilet bowl rim. Tighten the fixing brackets on the seat by hand, turning clockwise until the raised toilet seat is secure and does not move. Your feet should touch the floor when in a seated position.
