To use a cardiovascular pack in surgery, typically the procedure involves applying the split drape starting at the sternal notch, unfolding it to the head and arm boards, and then unfolding the incise film towards the feet after placing the patient in a frog-leg position for leg access. Key components like transparent pouches, absorbent reinforcement, and Velcro tabs manage instruments, fluids, and cords, while the overall process aims for a sterile, efficient, and adaptable working field for the surgeon.

1. Prepare the Patient and Site 

Positioning: Place the patient in a frog-leg position to allow access to the saphenous vein if needed for bypass surgery.

Initial Draping: Apply a sterile drape sheet under both legs and a groin towel.

2. Apply the Main Cardiovascular Drape

Placement:Position the cardiovascular (CV) split drape at the sternal notch, ensuring the appropriate side is oriented upwards. 

Reveal Incise Film:Remove the release liner from the insize film and apply it securely to the patient's chest region. 

Unfolding:Unfold the drape to cover the arm boards and ensure the top edge reaches the patient's head. 

3. Manage Legs and Instrument Access

Leg Access:After the initial draping, unfold the drape towards the feet, creating access for the surgical team to the legs and potential saphenous vein harvesting. 

Instrument Pouches:Use the integrated, clear instrument pouches and absorbent troughs on the drapes to hold and manage surgical tools and accessories. 

Cord Management:Employ the provided Velcro tabs to secure and organize cords, preventing them from interfering with the surgical field.

Fluid Control:The impermeable and absorbent material of the drapes helps to control fluid and prevent fluid strikethrough, ensuring a dry and sterile environment.
